Albin Kurti's Biography

Albin Kurti is a Kosovar politician, activist, and the current Prime Minister of Kosovo, best known for leading the Vetëvendosje! (Self-Determination) Movement. Born on March 24, 1975, in Pristina, Kurti rose to prominence as a student leader during the turbulent 1990s, advocating for the rights of Kosovo Albanians during the period of Serbian control. His activism, particularly during the Kosovo War, established him as a key figure in Kosovo’s fight for independence and democracy. After the war, Kurti co-founded Vetëvendosje!, a political movement that has become a dominant force in Kosovo’s political landscape, emphasizing anti-corruption, national self-determination, and social justice. Kurti’s leadership style is characterized by his strong rhetoric, commitment to reform, and willingness to challenge both local and international political norms. Although his tenure has not been without controversy, especially concerning his uncompromising stance toward Serbia and his organization of large-scale protests, he remains a popular and influential leader. Kurti holds a degree from the University of Pristina and is married to Rita Augestad Knudsen.
