B.R. Ambedkar's Biography

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, often called Babasaheb, was one of India's most influential thinkers, social reformers, and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution. Born on April 14, 1891, in a marginalized Dalit family, Ambedkar overcame immense social and economic obstacles to become a leading jurist, economist, and politician. He was the first Indian to pursue a doctorate in economics from abroad, attending both Columbia University and the London School of Economics. Ambedkar dedicated his life to fighting social injustice and inequality, especially the discrimination faced by Dalits and other marginalized communities in India. As the chairman of the drafting committee, he played a pivotal role in shaping the Constitution of India, embedding values of liberty, equality, and fraternity. Besides his political and legislative work, Ambedkar was also a prolific writer, passionate reader, and a strong advocate for education as a means of social upliftment. His conversion to Buddhism in 1956 inspired millions to follow his path and reject caste-based discrimination. Posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, Ambedkar’s legacy remains a beacon for human rights and social justice. Today, he is celebrated as a visionary who championed the cause of the oppressed and laid the foundation for a more equitable India.
