Lyndon B. Johnson's Biography

Lyndon B. Johnson, often known as LBJ, was the 36th President of the United States, serving from 1963 to 1969. Born on August 27, 1908, in Stonewall, Texas, Johnson began his career as a teacher before entering politics. He quickly rose through the ranks, serving as a U.S. Representative, Senator, and eventually as Vice President under John F. Kennedy. Following Kennedy’s assassination, Johnson assumed the presidency, where he became best known for his ambitious domestic agenda, known as the 'Great Society.' This included landmark legislation such as the Civil Rights Act, Medicare, and Medicaid, which fundamentally shaped modern American society. Despite his progressive achievements, Johnson’s presidency was marred by the controversial escalation of the Vietnam War, which overshadowed much of his legacy. Known for his imposing presence and persuasive 'Johnson Treatment,' LBJ was a master of political negotiation. He was married to Lady Bird Johnson, with whom he had two daughters.
