Static Major, born Stephen Ellis Garrett Jr. on November 11, 1974, in Louisville, Kentucky, was an influential American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He rose to prominence in the late 1990s as a member of the R&B group Playa and quickly became a sought-after songwriter and producer in the music industry. Static Major is best known for his work with Aaliyah, penning some of her biggest hits like 'Are You That Somebody?' and 'Try Again.' He also wrote Ginuwine's breakout single 'Pony,' which remains an R&B classic. His signature sound blended smooth R&B melodies with hip-hop influences, helping to shape the sound of late 90s and early 2000s urban music.
