Persis Khambatta was a trailblazing Indian actress and model, best remembered for her iconic role as Lieutenant Ilia in the 1979 blockbuster 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture.' Born on October 2, 1948, in Mumbai, India, she rose to fame after winning the prestigious Femina Miss India title in 1965. Khambatta's striking looks and charismatic presence quickly opened doors in the international modeling circuit, and soon after, she ventured into films. Her Hollywood breakthrough came with 'Star Trek,' where she made headlines as one of the first actresses to boldly shave her head for a film role, earning her a Saturn Award nomination and worldwide recognition.
